AeroNyra is a private messenger built by DORMEUSAPPS LLC. This policy is short because we collect nothing automatically: AeroNyra has no servers of our own, no accounts, and no analytics. It is also specific about the one thing in the path that is not ours — the public relays that carry your messages when you and a contact are apart — because a privacy policy that left them out would be wrong.
AeroNyra has no servers of its own, no accounts, and no analytics. The app does not collect your personal information or send it to us, and there is no server of ours to receive it. The one exception is an email you choose to send us, such as a report (see Reports You Send). This is not a promise to handle your data carefully — it is an architecture with no place of ours for your data to go.
Your private keys stay on your phone. They are never sent to us or to the relays, never synced to iCloud Keychain, and cannot be moved to another phone. Your display name and photo are never sent to us, to the relays, or to your contacts. They, the words you add to the content filter, and your other app settings are stored on your phone in a place iPhone backups can include. The one thing you hand out is your public key, and you hand it out yourself: it is inside the code a contact scans in person, and inside a one-time invite you choose to send. Whoever holds an invite can use it to pair with you, so send it somewhere you trust.
When you and a contact are near each other with Bluetooth on, messages usually travel over Bluetooth between your phones, and no internet connection is needed. If Bluetooth is unavailable, or the connection drops while a message is on its way, the app may send it through the public relays instead, sealed so that they cannot read it.
When you pair with an invite, the pairing message goes over Bluetooth when a Bluetooth connection is available, and stays off the relays when the other phone confirms it over Bluetooth. If that confirmation does not arrive within a few seconds, or there is no Bluetooth connection, the pairing message may be sent through the public relays instead, sealed so that they cannot read it.
When you're near other people using AeroNyra, your messages may hop through their phones to reach your contact, and theirs may hop through yours. Phones in between pass messages along without being able to read them or see your key, but they can see that a message went by, roughly how big it was, when, and how many phones it has passed through. Versions of the app before build 14 also sent your public key inside the first messages to a new contact, where phones passing them along could see it; updating the app stops this.
While AeroNyra is running, its Bluetooth signal carries the name "AeroNyra" and a fixed AeroNyra identifier, so people nearby with a Bluetooth scanner may be able to tell the app is in use. The signal does not include your name or your keys.
When you are apart, AeroNyra sends your messages through public relays on the internet. These are third-party services that DORMEUSAPPS LLC does not operate, control, or have any relationship with. The app connects to them without any account and without any authentication. A relay receives:
A relay never sees your name, your photo, your private keys, or the content of any message. It holds encrypted messages so they can be delivered when your phone reconnects, and it cannot open them. How long a relay keeps them, and what other records it keeps, is up to its operator, under policies we neither control nor can read.
Voice calls, video calls, and the walkie over the internet connect your phone directly to your contact's, with no relay or server of ours in between. The relays carry only the sealed messages that set up the connection. Like any direct connection, this means each phone learns the other's IP address.
While "Allow walkie from contacts" is on in Settings, a verified contact can open a walkie with you over the internet without you doing anything, so their phone can learn your IP address that way. Turn it off to decline these requests.
Every message is encrypted on your phone and decrypted only on your contact's. No one in between — not a relay, not a nearby phone, not us — can read what you say, unless you choose to send it to us in a report.
AeroNyra contains no advertising SDKs, no trackers, and no third-party analytics tools. The only others that receive anything from the app are the public relays and nearby phones described above, and they receive only what is listed there. An email you send us goes through your own email provider (see Reports You Send).
If you turn on Share with App Developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us crash reports. They don't include your messages.
If you report someone, the app prepares an email to support@dormeusapps.com that you review and send from your own mail app. It may contain the reason you chose, your name for the contact, a code derived from their public key, the app version and time, anything you choose to tell us about the person (such as their name, phone number, email, social media or how you met), what happened in your own words, and, if you keep it, the reported message's text. Photos, videos and voice notes are never included. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
Report a problem, in Settings, starts an email with only the app version and the time; you write the rest.
Any email you send us reaches us through your email provider and ours, with your email address.
We keep reports for up to 1 year, or longer if needed for a legal matter. We may share a report with law enforcement when required by law or when someone may be in danger.
AeroNyra asks for a small number of device permissions, used only for the features they enable:
Nothing captured through these permissions is sent to us. Photos, videos, and voice notes are sealed so that only the contacts you send them to can open them — sent over Bluetooth when you are near, and through the relays when you are apart or Bluetooth is unavailable.
AeroNyra has no account and no cloud backup of its own. Your messages, photos, videos, voice notes and contacts are kept out of iCloud and computer backups, so a backup cannot bring them back. Backups made before you updated and opened the app may still contain older messages and contacts. Deleting the app removes your messages, contacts and settings from your phone, but iOS keeps your keys in the phone's Keychain, so reinstalling AeroNyra on the same phone brings back the same identity, with no messages or contacts. To destroy your identity, use Erase this identity in the app's Settings. If you lose your phone or move to a new one, your identity and your history do not come with you. Relays hold only sealed messages, which they cannot open.
Apart from emails you choose to send us, we hold no data, so there is nothing for us to sell, share, or disclose to anyone, including in response to legal requests. We cannot produce what we never had. Reports are kept and may be shared as described in Reports You Send. Relay operators may hold encrypted messages and connection records for a time, subject to their own policies; those records do not contain your name, your keys, or the content of your messages, and we have no access to them.
AeroNyra is for people 18 and older and is not intended for anyone under 18. Because we collect no information automatically, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
